Our team led a campaign to protect disabled adults living in a group home on Long Island after the NYS Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) sent a letter to their families stating that the NYS OPWDD would not be renewing the lease of their home. Previously, this space had been providing living accommodations to adults for over 25 years. However, all residents would be expected to move to new homes across the state. After a relentless lobbying campaign and extensive press outreach, we helped to prevent the worst from happening, and NYS OPWDD withdrew their letter of intent. As a result, individuals happily remain in the home to this day.
